Phoebe Waller-Bridge joins Harrison Ford in new ‘Indiana Jones’ movie

Los Angeles, US, Apr 9 (EFE).- Phoebe Waller-Bridge will star alongside Harrison Ford in the new “Indiana Jones” movie, Lucasfilm Studio said Friday.

The Walt Disney production house also announced that composer John Williams would continue with doing the soundtrack for the fifth installment of the beloved saga directed by James Mangold, replacing Steven Spielberg behind the camera.

“Steven, Harrison, Kathy, Frank, and John are all artistic heroes of mine. When you add Phoebe, a dazzling actor, brilliant creative voice and the chemistry she will undoubtedly bring to our set, I can’t help but feel as lucky as Indiana Jones himself,” Mangold said in a statement.

Spielberg stepped down as the director of the latest in the adventure series last year.

It will be the first time in the franchise’s 39-year history that he will not helm an “Indiana Jones” film.

Sources close to the filmmaker said he decided to bring a new approach to the saga and attract a younger generation.

While the first three installments of the franchise were released in the 1980s (1981, 1984, 1989), the “Indiana Jones” saga returned in 2008 with “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull,” which became the franchise’s highest-grossing film.

Ford’s new partner Phoebe Waller-Bridge is the creator of the hit series “Fleabag” for which she won the Emmy for best actress and best comedy series in 2019.

In addition to this project, the actress will star alongside Donald Glover in a TV series of “Mr. and Mrs. Smith”, based on the 2005 film starring Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. EFE
