Police bust gang smuggling gold by drone from Russia into China

Beijing, May 2 (EFE).- Police in the Chinese region of Inner Mongolia have arrested four people over a gang operation that used a drone to smuggle gold into the country, state media reported Tuesday.

In addition to the April arrests, 5.2 kilograms of gold was seized, according to the Manzhouli City public security office, quoted by Xinhua news agency.

The drone was taking off from the Chinese side of the border and landing in Russia where one gang member loaded it with gold nuggets. It was then flown back to smuggle the loot to other gang members, Xinhua said citing a confession from a suspect.

The drone is designed to carry up to 20kg and valued at 250,000 yuan ($36,100), according to police. EFE
