MPD Clarifies Situation on Jackson Avenue with ICE Agents

 

MEMPHIS, TN (LPL/MPD) — El Departamento de Policía de Memphis emitió un comunicado con respecto al arresto ocurrido el martes, 18 de junio, en la avenida Jackson por agentes federales.

“Muchos nos han preguntado ya sobre un arresto realizado por agentes de Inmigración el 18 de junio en el 3940 Jackson Avenue. Queremos dejar claro que el Departamento de Policía de Memphis no fue la agencia que realizó este arresto. El Departamento de Policía de Memphis fue contactado por los oficiales de Inmigración que solicitaron nuestra asistencia en un disturbio. Los oficiales de MPD llegaron a la escena, tal y como lo hubiésemos hecho en cualquier otro momento cuando una agencia o persona necesita de nuestra ayuda.

Aproximadamente a las 3:21 p.m., los oficiales de MPD respondieron a una llamada por disturbios en el 3940 Jackson Avenue. Los oficiales respondieron y se les informó que un agente de Inmigración había detenido una camioneta Chevrolet roja que estaba ocupada por un individuo que tenía una orden judicial.

Los oficiales de Inmigración intentaron que el individuo saliera del vehículo, pero no tuvieron éxito. Finalmente, rompieron la ventana y pusieron al individuo bajo custodia. Los otros ocupantes del vehículo no fueron arrestados y fueron liberados por los agentes de ICE.

Los oficiales de MPD no estuvieron involucrados en el arresto del individuo en ningún momento.

Una vez más, el Departamento de Policía de Memphis no hizo este arresto. Cualquier información relativa a la orden judicial y la identidad de la parte arrestada provendrá de la Oficina de Inmigración y Control de Aduanas de los Estados Unidos.

MEMPHIS, TN (MPD) — The Memphis Police Department issued a statement regarding the arrest on Jackson Avenue by federal agents.

“We have received inquiries concerning an arrest that was made by Immigration Officers on June 18th at 3940 Jackson Avenue. We want to assure the community that the Memphis Police Department was not the arresting agency in this arrest. The Memphis Police Department was contacted by the Immigration Officers who requested our assistant regarding a disturbance. MPD officers made the scene as we would anytime an agency or individual requests for our assistance.

At approximately 3:21 p.m. Memphis Police Officers responded to a disturbance call at 3940 Jackson Avenue. Officers responded and were advised that an Immigration Officer had a red Chevrolet pickup truck stopped that was occupied by a wanted party.

Immigration Officers attempted to talk the wanted party out of the vehicle without success. Eventually, Immigration Officers broke the window and placed the wanted party into custody. The other occupants of the vehicle were not arrested and were released by the Immigration Officers.

Memphis Police Officers were not involved in the arrest of the wanted party.

Again, the Memphis Police Department did not make this arrest. Any information relative to the warrant and the identity of the arrested party will come from the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Office.
