Pope calls for peace in Ukraine, other war-hit nations

Vatican City, Dec 26 (EFE).- Pope Francis on Monday made a call for peace in Ukraine and all countries affected by war during his Angelus Prayer to mark the occasion of St. Stephen’s Day.

“I renew my wish for peace: peace in families, peace in parishes and religious communities, peace in movements and associations, peace for those war-torn peoples, peace for the dear and martyred Ukraine,” he told Catholic faithful gathered at the Vatican City’s St. Peter’s Square.

The pontiff noticed the abundance of Ukraine flags in the crowd.

In his Angelus message, he pointed out that St. Stephen was considered the first Christian martyr but said there were more “martyrs” in modern times, and called for prayers for “these persecuted brothers and sisters.” EFE
