Pope Francis to undergo intestinal surgery in Rome
Vatican City, Jul 5 (EFE).- Pope Francis on Sunday was admitted to a hospital in Rome to undergo a scheduled intestinal surgery, Vatican spokesman Matteo Bruni confirmed.
“This afternoon His Holiness Pope Francis went to the Agostino Gemelli Polyclinic in Rome where he will undergo a scheduled surgery for a symptomatic diverticular stenosis of the colon,” said Bruni in a statement.
Bruni has not mentioned when exactly the operation would take place but said there would be another statement when the surgery was completed.
The operation on the 84-year-old pontiff will be performed by Dr. Sergio Alfieri. EFE
