Carolina Gaitán: The rising star shining brighter at the Platino Awards

Miami, Apr 10 – Renowned Colombian actress Carolina Gaitán returns to the Platino Awards stage with great enthusiasm, and this time she’ll be co-hosting the event with Spanish actress Paz Vega and the versatile Mexican artist Omar Chaparro. Gaitán, a prominent figure in Ibero-America for her work in film and television, regards her return to the prestigious award ceremony as “making a grand entrance.”
Gaitán spoke with EFE in Miami, where she has resided since November, and expressed her excitement for the upcoming gala, which takes place in Madrid on April 22. She reminisced about the “fascinating” feeling she experienced at the 2022 edition of the awards and eagerly anticipates leading this year’s event.
The talented actress, known for her roles in productions like “Narcos,” “Sin Senos sí Hay Paraíso,” and the film “Encanto,” anticipates an even more remarkable lineup of nominees this year. She praised the excellent quality of the nominated productions, highlighting the Colombian series “Noticias de un Secuestro,” the film “Argentina 1985,” and “Bardo” from Mexico.
Gaitán attributes her invitation to co-host the 2023 edition to her chemistry with Chaparro during their previous collaboration at the 2022 Platino Awards. She eagerly looks forward to sharing the stage with Vega and Chaparro, two colleagues she deeply admires, and representing South America at the event.
The actress’s move to Los Angeles in 2019 marked the beginning of her Hollywood journey. Gaitán, who voiced Pepa Madrigal in the award-winning Disney animated film “Encanto,” contributed as the lead singer in both the Spanish and English versions of “We Don’t Talk About Bruno.” The song has become Walt Disney’s most successful in the past three decades.
Gaitán believes that her Miami base will help her maintain a strategic balance between the Anglo and Latino markets. Her upcoming projects include the series “Second Chances,” the movie “Quicksand,” and her first leading role in English for the feature film “Perfidious.” In addition, she continues to develop her music career, with two albums already released: “La Gaita” (2015) and “De Colombia” (2021).
While others may view her achievements as validation and an opportunity to slow down, Carolina Gaitán sees it as a motivation to strive even harder.
“The success of ‘Encanto’ has indeed opened many doors, but it has also put more pressure. In this race, you have to speed up when you manage to attract attention.” With her foot on the accelerator, Gaitán continues to shine brightly in her thriving career. EFE
