Possible planes collision at Tokyo’s Haneda airport causes runway closures

Tokyo, Jun 10 (EFE).- Two passenger airplanes appear to have collided near a taxiway at Tokyo’s Haneda airport on Saturday leading to the temporary closure of nearby runways, Japanese authorities announced.

There have been no reports of injuries, Japan’s transport ministry said, public broadcaster NHK reported.

The incident reportedly occurred around 11 am and involved a Thai Airways aircraft and another of Taiwan’s EVA Air, NHK said.

Photographs posted by the public broadcaster showed the two aircraft parked on the runway.

Part of the wing of the Thai Airways aircraft appeared to be broken and what appeared to be fragments could be seen near the runway.

Some runways near the site of the incident were closed for investigation but reopened after 1 pm, NHK reported, citing airport authorities.

The incident caused domestic and international flights of local airlines, Japan Airlines and All Nippon Airways, to be delayed by an hour. EFE
