2016 HISPANIC FILM SERIES IN MEMPHIS – PART II

Con la exhibición del documental “Las abuelas de la plaza de mayo y la búsqueda de su identidad” comenzó el jueves pasado el Ciclo de Cine Hispano 2016. La muestra de cine, organizada por el Departamento de Lenguas y Literaturas extranjeras de la Universidad de Memphis, en colaboración con la Embajada de España se ofrece a la comunidad con el propósito de celebrar el Mes de la Herencia Hispana. Este ciclo, iniciado en el 2010, presenta cuatro filmes iberoamericanos recientes a fin de difundir el trabajo de directores de España y América Latina.
Este jueves, 29 de septiembre, se proyecta el documental “Pecados de mi padre” (Argentina, Colombia 2009), del director argentino Nicolás Entel. La película se centra en la vida del narcotraficante colombiano Pablo Escobar (1949-1993) y el efecto de sus acciones en su hijo Sebastián Marroquín.
La serie se extiende hasta mediados de octubre con la presentación de las películas de ficción “Azul oscuro casi negro” (España 2006), de Daniel Sánchez Arévalo y “Vivir es fácil con los ojos cerrados” (España 2013), de David Trueba.
Todas las cintas se emiten los días jueves en español con subtítulos en inglés, a las 6 pm en el Auditorio de Psicología (3710 Veterans Avenue). Estacionamiento práctico se encuentra en Innovation Drive Parking Garage (340 Innovation Drive). El ciclo, gratuito y abierto al público, se recomienda para un público con criterio formado.

The screening of the documentary “Las Abuelas de Plaza de Mayo and the Search for Identity” open the Hispanic Film Series 2016 this past Thursday. The cinema exhibition is organized by the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures, at the University of Memphis, in collaboration with the Spanish Embassy to commemorate the Hispanic Heritage Month. This film series, initiated in 2010, presents four recent Ibero-American movies in order to broadcast Spanish and Latin American filmmaking.
The documentary “Sins of my Father” (Argentina, Colombia 2009) by the Argentinean director Nicolás Entel will be shown this coming Thursday, September 29. The film explores the life of Colombian drug lord and trafficker Pablo Escobar (1949-1993), and the effect of his actions on his son Sebastian Marroquín.
The film series will continue in October with the projection of the featured films “Dark Blue Almost Black” (Spain 2006), by Daniel Sánchez Arévalo, and “Living Is Easy with Eyes Closed” (Spain 2013), by David Trueba. All movies will be shown in Spanish with English subtitles. Showings will be held at 6 pm in the Psychology Auditorium (3710 Veterans Avenue). Convenient parking can be found in the Innovation Drive Parking Garage (340 Innovation Drive). Admission is free and open to mature audiences.
