Lee continues as major hurricane and Margot storm is about to become one

Miami (USA), Sep 11 (EFE).- Major hurricane Lee continues Monday in the middle of the Atlantic, moving northwest away from coastal areas. At the same time, Margot is about to become a hurricane, although it will also stay away from land, according to US National Hurricane Center (NHC).

Lee, a category three hurricane on the Saffir Simpson scale (out of a maximum of 5), has sustained winds of 195 kilometers per hour (121.6 miles per hour) and is located at 590 kilometers (366.6 miles) north of the Leeward Islands.

The hurricane is moving northwest at 13 km/h. It is expected to pass west of Bermuda in the next few days, where authorities are monitoring its path, as it will become more intense.

“Dangerous breaking waves and life-threatening ocean currents are affecting the northern Leeward Islands, the British and US Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, Hispaniola, the Turks and Caicos Islands, the Bahamas, and Bermuda,” said the NHC.

Meanwhile, it indicates that Margot has strengthened and is better organized, with maximum sustained winds of 110 km/h, and is likely to become a hurricane this Monday afternoon.

The storm was about 2,000 kilometers northwest of the Cape Verde Islands and is moving northward at about 17 km/h.

Tropical storm force winds extend up to 165 km from the center. EFE
