Pre-dawn Russian rocket fire kills at least 4 in Ukraine’s Lviv

Kyiv, July 6 (EFE).- At least four civilians lost their lives on Thursday morning when a Russian rocket struck an apartment building in the western Ukrainian city of Lviv, officials said.

According to Ukrainian officials, the rocket strike demolished the third and fourth floors of the building, resulting in at least nine injuries.

The interior ministry stated that rescue services are currently engaged in the search for potential victims trapped in the debris, continuing to dig through the rubble.

Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovyi confirmed that two bodies have been recovered from under the rubble of the damaged residential building.

Sadovyi shared a video displaying broken windows, damaged cars, and debris.

“Many apartments, more than 50, have been damaged, and approximately 50 cars have been destroyed,” said the mayor.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed his condemnation of the attack in a message posted on Telegram, accompanied by a video showcasing the partially destroyed building hit by the rocket.

Zelenskyy vowed that there would definitely be a “strong response to the enemy,” while offering his condolences to the victims’ families.

Anti-aircraft alarms were activated around 2:30 in the morning in Lviv when the Ukrainian Air Force detected several missiles heading towards the western provinces of the country.

With a population of over 700,000 people, Lviv is one of the largest urban centers in Ukraine.

Maksym Kozytskyi, the head of the Lviv region, said a “critical infrastructure facility” was targeted in the city. “Russia’s main goal is the destruction of the Ukrainian people, but we will emerge victorious.” EFE
