Injured Sadio Mané named in Senegal’s World Cup squad

Madrid Desk, Nov 11 (EFE).- Bayern Munich star Sadio Mané has been included in Senegal’s World Cup squad despite an injury that cast doubt on his participation in the tournament.

The 30-year-old former Liverpool forward picked up a leg injury during Bayern’s 6-1 hammering of Werder Bremen on November 8, and was sidelined by the Bundesliga giants for their subsequent tie with Schalke.

French media outlet l’Equipe reported that Mané would not recover in time for the 2022 Qatar World Cup.

Senegal coach Aliou Cissé however named Mané in his team revealed Friday.

The Bayern forward will join other stars in the Lions of Teranga squad such as Chelsea teammates Eduoard Mendy and Kalidou Koulibaly.

Senegal’s Qatar campaign starts on November 21 against the Netherlands in Group A.

The West African team will also come up against hosts Qatar and Ecuador. EFE
