City of Memphis Organizes First Bilingual Informative Workshop for the Hispanic Community

MEMPHIS, TN (LPL) — Due to the remarkable growth of the Hispanic population in the city, the Office of Neighborhood Engagement, with the City of Memphis’ Division of Housing and Community Development, has prepared the first bilingual informative workshop on community issues. This workshop will be held on Saturday, February 29, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., at the Gaisman Community Center (4221 Macon Rd., Memphis, TN 38122).

The goal of this workshop, called “How 2 On Demand,” is to inform the community about the basic and free services that are being offered by the City of Memphis. Among the presenters of the workshop will be representatives of 311 (Public Works), 211 (Libraries), Code Enforcement, Office of Community Affairs, MWBE – Office of Business Diversity and Compliance – and the Division of Housing and Community Development itself.

According to Vanessa Delgadillo, an analyst at the Division of Housing and Community Development, this could be one of many free bilingual workshops that can be of benefit to the Hispanic community. Therefore, everyone is invited to participate, especially if a person just moved to Memphis and doesn’t know anything about the area, like the local laws or where to report problems in the neighborhood, potholes or trash in the street, etc.

“What we have noticed is that a lot of people are not aware of the free services that the City of Memphis offers to the community. Therefore, what we want to do is practically go to the community and talk about what we do, and then, if the community has questions, we can answer them,” Delgadillo said.

For more information about this workshop, call Vanessa Delgadillo at (901) 636-6980.
