At least 11 killed in Colombia mine blast, 10 missing

Bogota, Mar 15 (EFE).- At least 11 people have died and 10 are feared to be trapped after an explosion at a coal mine in central Colombia, authorities reported on Wednesday.

The explosion took place on Tuesday night in the El Cajón area of Sutatausa municipality.

The blast affected the Hoyo, Lucero and Esperanza mines, part of a complex that employs dozens of miners who work manually to extract the coal.

“Rescue operations are ongoing. We continue to work with the relief forces,” the governor of Cundinamarca, Nicolás García Bustos, said on Twitter.

“Our only objective: to rescue them alive,” he added in a Twitter video message.EFE
