Russia will hit ‘new targets’ if US supplies rocket systems to Kyiv

Moscow, Jun 5 (EFE).- Russia’s president Vladimir Putin on Sunday threatened to strike new targets in Ukraine if the United States supplies Kyiv with long-range missile systems.

The Russian leader was commenting on a recent aid package approved by the White House worth $700 million, which included the provision of high mobility rocket systems known as HIMARS.

The modern systems, which have a striking distance of 70 kilometers, would allow the Ukrainian army to hit Russian forces in the rear. Ukraine’s president Volodymyr Zelenskyy has vowed not to use them to hit Russian territory.

In an interview with Rossiya-1 state TV, Putin said that if the weapons are delivered, Russia would “hit new targets that we have not attacked so far.”

He insisted that the new weapons system would not alter the balance of power in the conflict, claiming that the deliveries were aimed at replenishing stocks rather than boosting fire power.EFE
