MEMPHIS, TN (localmemphis.com) — The construction project on I-240 is now expanding into your work week, and it’s only going to get worse.

Normally, crews close down portions of the project late on Friday. But this week, road closures came a day early, beginning Thursday night.

Here’s how the project will impact your weekend commute moving forward.

Friday at 9:00 p.m. TDOT will shut down all of Poplar Avenue westbound and I-240 in both directions in that area, so crews can demolish and replace the west bound Poplar Avenue bridge

It will be replaced this weekend using a process called accelerated bridge construction. The new Poplar Avenue westbound bridge was constructed on the side of the highway near Walnut Grove… And will be transported down the interstate and lifted into place throughout the weekend.

The new bridge is expected to be in place and the highway reopened by 6:00 a.m. Monday.

NIGHTLY CLOSURES are as follows:

Thursday, August 16, 9:00 p.m. until Friday, August 17, 6:00 a.m. – There will be one lane closed on Poplar Avenue westbound.

FULL CLOSURES are as follows:

Friday, August 17, 9:00 p.m. until Monday, August 20, 6:00 a.m. – FULL CLOSURE of I-240 east and westbound and Poplar Avenue east and westbound.

Friday, August 24, 9:00 p.m. until Monday, August 27, 6:00 a.m. – FULL CLOSURE of I-240 east and westbound and Poplar Avenue east and westbound.
