Perisic keeps Croatia alive with goal to salvage 1-1 draw against Czechs

Sports Desk, Jun 18 (EFE).- Despite bearing little resemblance to the side that finished second in the 2018 World Cup, Croatia remain alive in the Euro 2020 tournament after picking up a point Friday against the Czech Republic on an equalizer by Ivan Perisic.

Patrik Schick, author of a goal for the ages in the Czechs’ opener against Scotland, put his side ahead in the 37th minute of the contest at Hampden Park in Glasgow.

The revelation of the tournament won a penalty by taking an inadvertent elbow to the face from Dejan Lovren and converted from the spot to make it 1-0.

But a little more than two minutes into the second half, Perisic, Croatia’s all-time leading scorer, brought the Balkan side level.

The Inter Milan man charged down the left side after getting on the end of Andrej Kramaric’s quickly taken free kick and beat keeper Tomas Vaclik.

With 4 points from two games, the Czechs are first in Group D, but they lead England by only a point and the Three Lions will be in action later Friday against Scotland, who have no points. EFE apa/dr
