US opens to fully vaccinated international travellers

Washington, Sep 20 (EFE).- The United States on Monday announced it would allow entry of fully vaccinated international travellers, including passengers from the European Union, the United Kingdom and China, starting in November.

A vaccination certificate and a negative coronavirus test will be required to enter the US, the White House coronavirus response coordinator, Jeffrey Zients, said at a press conference.

The travel restrictions were initially imposed by former president Donald Trump (2017-2021) since the onset of the pandemic in 2020 and were extended by his successor Joe Biden.

Fully vaccinated visitors will not need to quarantine upon their arrival.

The European Commission applauded the move, saying it was good news for the economy.

“We welcome the US announcement that fully vaccinated EU travellers will soon be able to travel to the US again,” the EC posted to its Twitter account.

“A long-awaited step for separated families & friends, and good news for business,” the tweet added.

The US travel curbs have been criticized by the European countries, where vaccination rollouts outpace the US’ campaign. EFE
