Putin: developing nuclear triad, modern weaponry guarantees Russia’s security

Moscow, Jun 21 (EFE).- Developing Russia’s “triad” of land, air and sea nuclear weapons capabilities guarantees the country’s security and global stability, Russian president Vladimir Putin said Wednesday during a graduation ceremony for young military officers held at the Kremlin.

“The main task is the development of the nuclear triad, which is the key guarantee of Russia’s military security and global stability,” Putin said.

He added that “about half” of the country’s strategic missile force units were already equipped with modern Yars systems, while modernization of the arsenals with missile systems with hypersonic Avangard warheads was “underway” and “the first launchers of the Sarmat system with a new heavy missile will soon be put into operational service.”

The Russian president highlighted “the enormous contribution of new types of armored vehicles, air strike, air defense and radio electronic warfare systems” in the framework of the Russian military campaign in Ukraine, and assured that “we will undoubtedly continue to produce and improve” these weapons.

“There is still much to be done to increase the qualitative potential of all the components of the Armed Forces,” Putin said. EFE
