American art exhibition opens up at Thyssen museum in Spain

Madrid Dec 14 (EFE).- Nature, crossroads of cultures, urban life and material culture are the main themes of the new American art collection at Madrid’s famed Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum.

Designed to celebrate the centenary of Baron Hans Heinrich Thyssen-Bornemisza’s birth, the “American Art from Thyssen Collection” exhibition kicked off Tuesday, combining artworks from different movements in the 19th and 20th centuries.

The collection is made up of about 150 works, some 100 of which belong to the museum’s permanent collection while the rest are loaned by the baron’s family.

In a section dedicated to North American art, artworks by painters such as Jackson Pollock, Mark Rothko, Roy Lichtenstein, Edward Hopper, Richard Estes, Thomas Cole and Francis Augustus Silva are put on display.

The exhibition, which runs until June 2022, aims to provide visitors with a deeper understanding of the complexities of American art and culture through the pieces of art collected by the baron over the course of 30 years. EFE
