Musk restores Donald Trump’s Twitter account after poll in favor
Madrid/New York, Nov 19 (EFE).- Twitter’s new owner Elon Musk announced he is restoring the account on the social network of former United States President Donald Trump after promoting a poll that has been favorable to this decision.
“The people have spoken. Trump will be reinstated. Vox Populi, Vox Dei,” Musk announced through his official account.
Musk promoted a 24-hour poll that ended Saturday to ask if Trump, who was suspended indefinitely by the platform after linking his comments to the assault on Capitol Hill, should return to the social network.
According to the results published by Musk from the poll, which received 15,085,458 votes, 51.8 percent were in favor of restoring the account to Trump, while 48.2% were against it.
In early November, Musk said Twitter “will not allow” anyone who has been removed from the social network for violating its rules to return to the platform until the company has a clear process.
The tycoon, who bought the network for $44 billion, also said in a series of tweets that “Twitter’s content moderation council will include representatives with widely divergent viewpoints, which will undoubtedly include the civil rights community and groups fighting violence fueled by hate.
In his own tweet after the survey, Musk hinted with the message “Vox Populi, Vox Dei!” (a Latin phrase meaning “the voice of the people is the voice of God”), that the return of Trump – who announced his candidacy for the 2024 presidential election this week – would depend on the result of the poll.
Before buying the social network, Musk said that among the people he would welcome to Twitter is Trump.
Yesterday, Musk announced the unblocking of the Twitter accounts of writer Jordan Peterson, humorist Kathy Griffin, and conservative parody outlet The Babylon Bee.
Peterson’s and Babylon Bee’s profiles were blocked for posting content that was disrespectful to the trans community, while Griffin’s was removed for impersonating Musk. EFE
