Russia’s space agency says sanctions jeopardize the ISS

Madrid Desk, Mar 12 (EFE).- Sanctions against Russia in response to its invasion of Ukraine put the International Space Station project at risk, the Russian space agency warned Saturday.

Roscosmos director general Dmitry Rogozin filed his warnings in a letter to NASA, the Canadian space agency and the European Union’s ESA, which jointly run the ISS with Russia.

Previously, Rogozin stated that the work on the ISS had been affected by the current geopolitical situation, adding that substantial funds would be required to extend the operation of the station until 2030 as planned, otherwise it would fall apart.

On February 24, the day Russia launched its invasion of Ukraine, United States president Joe Biden warned that sanctions against Moscow and its allies would hit the country’s tech industry as well as its financial institutions. EFE
