Depay, De Jong, Fati get Barca back on track

Sports Desk, Sep 26 (EFE).- Memphis Depay, Luuk de Jong and Ansu Fati on Sunday led Barcelona to a 3-0 win over Levante, ending a three-match winless drought.

Having earned just two points in as many La Liga matches after losing to Bayern Munich in Champions League competition, Barcelona put on a strong performance.

It took the Netherlands’ Depay six minutes to give Barcelona the lead from the 12-yard spot after he was awarded a penalty for being downed inside the area.

His countryman, De Jong, doubled Barcelona’s lead shortly before the quarter-hour mark, as he fired from close range off a clever pass from US full-back Sergiño Dest.

The Catalan team had several chances to increase the tally, but it was not until second-half stoppage time that Fati scored the third goal, 10 minutes after taking the field.

Making his first appearance in 10 months, the 18-year-old inaugurated No. 10 in style as he sealed Barcelona’s win on a shot from just outside the area.

With the win, Barcelona are fifth with 12 points and a match in hand, five behind leaders Real Madrid, while Levante hold the 17th spot with four points.
