Ferrari achieve front-row lockout in inaugural Miami Grand Prix

Sports Desk, May 7 (EFE).- Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz finished first and second Saturday in qualifying for Formula 1’s first Miami Grand Prix.

It was the third time in the young season that the 24-year-old driver from Monaco won pole, while his Spanish teammate had his best qualifying session of the 2022 campaign.

Reigning world champion Max Verstappen (Red Bull) of the Netherlands was third, just ahead of Mexican teammate Sergio “Checo” Perez. Valtteri Bottas (Alfa Romeo) rounded out the top five.

The Finn will be joined on the third row by British seven-time champion Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes). Frenchman Pierre Gasly (AlphaTauri) and Briton Lando Norris took the seventh and eighth spots, respectively.

Gasly’s Japanese colleague, Yuko Tsunoda, and Canada’s Lance Stroll completed the top 10.

Leclerc leads the driver standings with 86 points, followed by Verstappen with 59, Perez with 54, and Russell with 49 points.

Hamilton, in pursuit of a record eighth F1 crown, is seventh with 28 points. EFE arh/dr
