Biden steps onto campaign trail, bolstering Democrats

Maryland, US, Aug 25 (EFE).- Boosted by recent parliamentary victories and positive polling, United States President Joe Biden stepped back onto the campaign trail Thursday at a Democratic rally that paved the way for the November midterm elections.

Biden kicked off his campaigning with a speech at a Democratic National Committee rally in Maryland, a state adjacent to Washington with a progressive majority, where he arrived having congratulated himself for his first two years in office.

The rally, his first in months, allowed him to extol his achievements and bolster the morale of the Democratic voters ahead of Nov. 8 when his party will run for a majority in both the Senate and the House of Representatives.

“I want to be crystal clear about what’s on the ballot this year,” Biden said. “Your right to choose is on the ballot this year. The social security you paid for from the time you had a job is on the ballot. The safety of your kids, gun violence is on the ballot.”

“And it’s not hyperbole – the very survival of our planet is on the ballot. Your right to vote is on the ballot. Even the democracy. Are you ready to fight for these things now? Well then you need to do one thing: vote.”

The signing of the Inflation reduction Act, a semiconductor chip manufacturing law and Wednesday’s cancellation of some student debt reflected Biden’s current winning streak.

The audience had been waiting for him for almost four hours, entertained by a local band and with speeches by politicians such as House majority leader Steny Hoyer, who urged support for Biden, saying he is doing what he promised he would.

In the 2020 presidential election, Biden won against Republican Donald Trump in Maryland with 65.4 percent of the vote and Thursday’s full room reflected that support.

A man who shouted in the middle of Biden’s speech that the president “stole the election” two years ago was booed by the rest of the crowd and reproached by Biden, who when the situation calmed down, said “ignorance knows no boundaries.”

A poll this week by Ipsos showed that Biden’s public approval rating had risen to 41 percent, five points higher than the percentages recorded since May. EFE
