Real, Bayern stay perfect in Champions League as Onana saves United

Sports Desk, Oct 25 (EFE).- Brazilian forward Rodrygo and Englishman Jude Bellingham struck as Real Madrid maintained their perfect start to the European Champions League campaign with a 2-1 win over Sporting Braga on Tuesday.

German champions Bayern Munich also kept their perfect win record this season, with Englishman Harry Kane scoring, among others, in a 3-1 win over Galatasaray.

Rodrygo opened the scoring for Real early with a close-range strike before Bellingham, who has now scored in the first three group games for two seasons running, doubled their advantage in the second half.

Braga pulled one goal back almost immediately through Álvaro Djaló but were unable to find the equalizer.

The win put the round of 16 within sight for Real, with nine points from three matches.

Napoli remained close to Real with their second win of the campaign, 1-0 against Union Berlin away from home courtesy of Giacomo Raspadori’s 65th-minute strike.

Kingsley Coman gave Bayern an early lead in Istanbul before Mauro Icardi’s ‘Panenka’ penalty helped Galatasaray level.

Harry Kane and Jamal Musiala’s second-half score ensured Bayern did not slip and were well on course to the next round with three wins out of three matches.

In Copenhagen, Harry Maguire and André Onana, who have come in for criticism in recent times, earned Manchester United a 1-0 win over Copenhagen.

Maguire headed home to break the deadlock in the 70th minute, and goalkeeper Onana saved a penalty from Scott McTominay in the 97th minute to end United’s five-game winless streak in the competition.

Arsenal moved to the top of their group with a 2-1 win at Seville, their second of the season.

Gabriel Martinelli raced clear after superb work by Gabriel Jesus to finish moments before the break.

Jesus fired a stunning effort into the top corner in the second half to put his name in the score sheet. Nemanja Gudelj’s header could only reduce the margin for the Spanish side.

Johan Bakayoko’s strike gave PSV the lead at Lens, but the visitors had to settle for a 1-1 draw after Elye Wahi’s equalizer.

Brais Méndez scored the winner as Real Sociedad beat Benfica 1-0 to stay on top in their group, with Inter Milan, who beat Salzburg 2-1, staying close with seven points.

Hakan Çalhanoğlu struck from a penalty in the second half after Alexis Sánchez’s opener was canceled out by Oscar Gloukh.

Alexis’s first goal since rejoining Inter took his Champions League tally to 16, taking him past Arturo Vidal to become the all-time leading Chilean scorer in the competition. EFE
