Con el pasar del tiempo, aparecen más figuras famosas, como músicos, deportistas o actores. Pero el tiempo también nos quita a mucha gente, muchas veces demasiado temprano.

Los famosos también son humanos, y un vacío aparece cuando perdemos a una figura amada. Pero el fallecimiento también nos hace recordar sus vidas y nos ayuda a valorar sus legados. 2016 ha sido un año difícil, porque celebridades como David Bowie, Alan Rickman, Prince, Muhammad Ali y muchos más nos han mostrado que los famosos que antes eran jóvenes y dinámicos también sufren al pasar los años.

Aunque yo nunca presencié el auge de estas celebridades, soy parte de una generación que también aprecia no sólo a estos famosos sino también a los que han inspirado. Muchos adolescentes de hoy amaron la actuación de Alan Rickman como Severus Snape en la serie de Harry Potter. Entre mi grupo de amigos, pegó fuerte la música de Prince con su álbum más reciente, Art Official Age. Y cuando hay debates sobre el mejor boxeador, Ali siempre es palabra mayor.

Con el pasar del tiempo, famosos como Drake, Steph Curry, Leonardo DiCaprio y muchos más envejecerán como nosotros, y para nuestra tristeza algunos van a fallecer antes que otros. Si hay algo que el 2016 nos ha enseñado, es que hay que apreciar a los que tenemos alrededor nuestro y reconocer el legado que estos famosos nos dejan.

As time goes on, we’re graced by the presence of new famous figures, such as musicians, athletes, or actors. Yet time also unfortunately takes many beloved figures from us, often too soon.

Celebrities are also human, so a void seems to appear when we experience a profound loss. Yet their passing also makes us remember their lives and help us value their legacy. 2016 has been a tough year, as celebrity losses such as David Bowie, Alan Rickman, Prince, Muhammad Ali, and many more have truly shown us that figures who were once young and dashing are also subject to the passage of time.

Though I was never around for these celebrities’ heydays, I am part of a later generation who appreciated these celebrities but also those they inspired. Many of today’s teens enjoyed Alan Rickman’s performance as the sly Severus Snape in the Harry Potter series. Several of my friends and I first got hooked on Prince through his latest album, Art Official Age. And when arguments about the best boxer take place, Ali is always up there.

As time goes on, people like Drake, Steph Curry, Leonardo DiCaprio, and many more beloved celebrities will age with us, some sadly going sooner than others. If there’s anything that 2016 has taught us, it’s to appreciate those around us and to appreciate the legacy that these beloved figures have left us.
