Sports Desk, Oct 27 (EFE).- Real Madrid came into Wednesday’s contest against Osasuna at the Bernabeu with momentum from victories over Shakhtar Donetsk in Champions League and Barcelona in last weekend’s Clasico, yet the hosts managed only a 0-0 draw.
The Blancos remain atop LaLiga by virtue of better goal difference than the three other clubs who are also on 21 points: Sevilla, Real Betis and Real Sociedad.
But Sociedad can reclaim first place with a win Thursday against 14th-place Celta.
While the hosts had nearly 75 percent of the ball, Osasuna’s five-man backline held the potent Blancos attack to just three shots on target.
Eder Militao and Vinicius Jr. had the best chances for Real Madrid in the first half and visiting goalkeeper Sergio Herrera proved equal to the task on both occasions.
At the other end of the pitch, Thibaut Courtois was never really tested. The closest Osasuna came to scoring was a strike by Jon Moncayola in the 50th minute that hit the post.
The Blancos’ Karim Benzema watched his shot bounce off the woodwork shortly after the hour mark, while Vinicius fired just wide in the final minutes of regulation.
Carlo Ancelotti’s men are now winless in their last three games at the Santiago Bernabeu.
