Real Madrid president Perez calls Ronaldo ‘idiot’ in latest audio leak drama

Madrid, Jul 14 (EFE).- Real Madrid president Florentino Perez called his former star forward Cristiano Ronaldo an “idiot” and slated ex-head coach Jose Mourinho in audio recordings dating from 2012 which were leaked to Spanish press.

“He’s crazy. This guy is an idiot, a sick man,” Perez said of Ronaldo, according to the audio file published by El Confidencial.

The Portuguese signed for Real Madrid in 2009 from Manchester United for a then-world record fee, and became a club legend by the time of his departure to Juventus in 2018

“You think this guy is normal but he’s not normal, otherwise he wouldn’t do all the things he does.”

Ronaldo was not the only former Portuguese employee to come under fire from Perez, Real Madrid’s long-serving president and a vocal supporter of the breakaway Super League.

He described Mourinho, who won LaLiga in 2011/12, and super-agent Jorge Mendes, as having  “terrible egos” and being “morons.”

Mourinho has recently taken over as manager of Italian club Roma.

The latest drama comes after El Confidencial on Tuesday published audio files dating from 2006 in which Perez criticized former players Iker Casillas and Raul Gonzalez the “biggest frauds” in the club’s history.

“Casillas is not good enough to be the goalkeeper for Real Madrid, what do you want me to say?” he said in the file, dated to just after he stepped down from his first stint as president, a position he returned to in 2009.

Casillas, who spent 16 years in Real Madrid’s first team, is currently the club’s ambassador, while Raul, who was also part of the Galacticos squad in the early to mid-2000s, is the coach of the club’s reserve team, Real Madrid Castilla.
