Red Bulls dominate FP2 in Baku

Sports Desk, Jun 4 (EFE).- Sergio ‘Checo’ Pérez led the Red Bulls to a 1-2 in the second free practice session for the Azerbaijan Grand Prix on Friday while defending champion Lewis Hamilton notched the 11th fastest time on track.

Checo stopped the clock on his fastest lap of the 6-kilometer track at 1m42.115s, a sliver ahead of his teammate Max Verstappen, who won last week’s Monaco Grand Prix and currently sits atop the drivers leaderboard.

Carlos Sainz finished the session with the third-fastest time in the Ferrari, a positive performance for the Spaniard who came second in Monaco. He was followed by his teammate Charles Leclerc.

AlphaTauri’s Pierre Gasly notched the fifth quickest lap in Azerbaijan on Friday.

Things weren’t looking good for Mercedes, with Hamilton 11th fastest of the day and Valtteri Bottas 16th, although all that could change in Saturday’s third practice session and qualifying.

The Azerbaijan Grand Prix kicks off on Sunday in the next chapter of this season’s race to the top of the leaderboard, which is shaping up to be an exciting head-to-head between Hamilton, the seven-time world champion, and Verstappen. EFE
