MEMPHIS, TN (LPL) — La Sociedad Americana Contra El Cáncer (ACS, por sus siglas en inglés) invita a los residentes del Medio Sur a unirse a su gran causa, de manera que la organización regional pueda seguir recaudando fondos mientras crea una mayor conciencia para combatir el cáncer. Como parte de esta lucha continua está el evento del Relevo Por La Vida de Memphis (Relay For Life of Memphis) que se estará llevando a cabo el sábado, 14 de abril, de 2 p.m. a 9 p.m. en el Tiger Lane del Estadio Liberty Bowl. Las inscripciones ya están abiertas.
Siendo un movimiento social, Relay For Life es el evento de recaudación de fondos más grande del mundo para salvar vidas y acabar con el cáncer. En sí, su misión es reunir a las comunidades para liberar al mundo del dolor y el sufrimiento causado por el cáncer. No se trata de carreras 5k ni caminatas, sino de un estilo de fiesta comunitaria y familiar que une a las comunidades en general para celebrar a las personas que han tenido que luchar contra el cáncer o recordar a los seres queridos que perdieron la batalla contra la terrible enfermedad y fallecieron. También busca tomar medidas para salvar más vidas.
En cada evento de Relay For Life, las personas que participan demuestran su valentía, entusiasmo y fortaleza. Juntos confirman que el cáncer sí puede ser vencido.
Los participantes se turnan para caminar o correr alrededor de una pista o ruta. Cada equipo tiene al menos un participante en la pista en todo momento y participa en la recaudación de fondos en los meses previos al evento.
Los fondos recaudados permiten que la Sociedad Americana Contra El Cáncer proporcione información gratuita y apoyo para las personas que enfrentan la enfermedad, así como educación sobre cómo reducir el riesgo de cáncer o cómo detectarlo temprano, cuándo es más fácil de tratar y cómo obtener el financiamiento necesario para las investigaciones que ayudarán a proteger a las generaciones futuras.
El tema del evento de este año es “¡Luces, Cámaras, Relevo!” (Lights, Camera, Relay!). Y además de contar con música en vivo, un show de talento (“Memphis’ Got Talent”), unas mini olimpíadas para todas las edades (“Field of Dreams Mini Olympics”), una subasta silenciosa, concursos y el “901 Cake Pull”, el evento tendrá otras sorpresas como la nueva Caminata/Carrera Divertida del Tutú Morado (the new “Purple Tutu Fun Run/Walk”), en donde se le dará un premio al ganador con el mejor tutú morado.
Una ceremonia en memoria de los seres queridos que han fallecido por causa del cáncer será realizada con una luminaria a las 7:30 p.m.
El evento de Relay for Life es completamente gratuito para el público; sin embargo, se aceptan donaciones en cualquier momento.
La Sociedad Americana Contra El Cáncer financia cerca de 10,5 millones de dólares en subvenciones para investigaciones sobre el cáncer en todo Tennessee.

MEMPHIS, TN (LPL) — The American Cancer Society (ACS) invites all Mid-South residents to join their great cause, so that the regional organization can continue their mission of raising funds while building a greater awareness to fight cancer. As part of this ongoing struggle, residents can participate in Relay For Life of Memphis, which will be held on Saturday, April 14, from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Liberty Bowl’s Tiger Lane. Registration is now open.
Being a social movement, the Relay For Life movement is the world’s largest fundraising event to save lives from cancer. Its mission is to bring communities together to free the world of the pain and suffering caused by cancer. The Relay For Life has nothing to do with 5k runs or walks; instead, it is like a family-friendly community block-party style event that unites communities across the globe to celebrate people who have had cancer, remember loved ones lost to cancer, and take action for lifesaving change.
At each Relay For Life event, the people involved demonstrate their courage, enthusiasm, and strength. Together they confirm that cancer can be overcome.
Participants take turns walking or running around a track or route. Each team has at least one participant on the track at all times and participates in fundraising in the months leading up to the event.
The proceeds allow the American Cancer Society to provide free information and support for people facing the disease, as well as education on how to reduce the risk of cancer or how to detect it early, when it is easier to treat, and how to get the funding for cancer research that will help protect future generations.
The theme of this year’s event is “Lights, Camera, Relay!,” and in addition to having live music, the “Memphis’ Got Talent” show, the “Field of Dreams Mini Olympics,” a silent auction, team contests and the “901 Cake Pull,” there will be other cool surprises like the new “Purple Tutu Fun Run/Walk,” where the winner will be awarded with the best purple tutu.
Moreover, a luminaria ceremony in memory of loved ones who have died to cancer will be performed at 7:30 p.m.
The Relay for Life event is completely free to the public; however, donations are accepted at any time.
The American Cancer Society currently funds $10.5 million in research throughout Tennessee.
