Jaguar Cubs’ Names Revealed Ahead of Their Public Debut at Memphis Zoo
MEMPHIS, TN (LPL/WMC) — Dos cachorros de jaguar están haciendo su debut público en el Zoológico de Memphis y, finalmente, ya sabemos cómo se llaman.
El Memphis Zoo organizó un concurso de nombres con las siguientes tres opciones: Gigi e Izzy, Vida y Frida y Lulu y Bella. Los nombres ganadores fueron Lulu y Bella.
Lulu y Bella nacieron en el Zoológico de Memphis el 4 de septiembre del 2019. Sus padres son los jaguares Diego y Philomena.
Los nombres elegidos le rinden un homenaje al antiguo cuidador de animales en el zoológico, Louie Bell, quien falleció en abril.
“Louie falleció este año, así que este es un tributo perfecto para él y su largo servicio en el Zoológico de Memphis y la comunidad de Memphis”, dijo Dan Demblec, conservador del Zoológico de Memphis.
Bell se hizo cargo de muchos animales, pero a menudo estaba con los grandes felinos del zoológico.
Fue cuidador de animales en el zoológico durante 46 años. También entrenó al primer Tom “El Tigre” (de los Memphis Tigers) y estuvo en el Zoológico de Memphis de 1971 al 2017.
Lulu y Bella se quedarán con su mamá por al menos un año y medio o dos.

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) — Two jaguar cubs are making their public debut at the Memphis Zoo and we have finally learned their names.
Memphis Zoo hosted a naming contest with name options of Gigi and Izzy, Vida and Frida, and Lulu and Bella. The results are in and the cubs are now known as Lulu and Bella!
Lulu and Bella were born at the zoo in September and are the cubs of Diego and Philomena.
The meaning behind the pair’s name after the reveal — they’re a tribute to longtime Zoo Keeper Louie Bell who passed away in April.
“Louie passed away this year so this is a perfect tribute to him and his long time service to the Memphis Zoo and Memphis community,” said Dan Demblec, Memphis Zoo curator.
Bell took care of many animals, but he was often with the big cats of the Zoo.
He was a zookeeper for 46 years.
Bell trained the first Tom the Tiger and was with Memphis Zoo from 1971 to 2017.
Lulu and Bella will stay with mom for at least one and a half to two years.
