Gazprom to shut down Nord Stream 1 pipeline for 3 days

Moscow, Aug 19 (EFE).- Russian energy giant Gazprom on Friday announced it would halt supplies of gas through the Nord Stream 1 pipeline to Germany for three days starting August 31 in order to carry out maintenance.

The company said “the only Trent 60 gas compression unit” would be stopped between August 1 and September 2 in order to carry out the works, adding that maintenance was necessary every 1,000 hours of operation.

Gazprom said the current level of supplies, some 33 million cubic meters per day, would resume thereafter.

The company, majority-owned by the Russian state, announced on July 27 a reduction of its supplies to Europe to a fifth of its normal capacity.

The decision came following Western sanctions over Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine and has sparked energy supply concerns in Europe with winter looming.EFE
