Rodrigo de Paul joins Atletico Madrid on 5-year contract

Madrid, Jul 12 (EFE).- Argentine midfielder Rodrigo de Paul, who just won Copa America, will join Atletico Madrid for five seasons from Serie A’s Udinese, La Liga champion announced on Monday.

The 27-year-old is the second player to join the Rojiblancos this summer following Marcos Paulo, who was a free agent after his Fluminense contract had expired.

Over five seasons he spent at the Italian club, the Argentine collected 34 goals and 36 assists in 184 games.

Since making his international debut in 2018, De Paul has been capped 28 times, including Argentina’s successful 2021 Copa America run.

“I’m very happy, I’m going to join LaLiga’s champion and I’m conscious of the responsibility it carries,” he told Atletico website. “It is a big step in my football career.”

“Moreover, because of the timing, just after winning the Copa America. This fills me of strength to meet all expectations,” he added. EFE
