Roma’s Zaniolo reports death threats after loss to Napoli

Rome, Jan 30 (EFE).- Roma forward Nicolo Zaniolo called the police early Monday after he allegedly received death threats from a group of fans outside his home in the wake of his side’s 2-1 loss to Napoli.

Local media reported that 15 fans showed up at Zaniolo’s home at around 1:30 am, threatening him with death over expressing his desire to leave the Serie A club in the winter transfer window.

The incident also comes after Roma coach Jose Mourinho voiced criticism directed at Zaniolo.

“Unfortunately, what I said after Spezia seems to be coming true,” Mourinho said at a press conference on Saturday.

“If a player always tells everyone he doesn’t want to wear the Roma shirt, I have to say ‘unfortunately’… I said that I expected him to stay, but today I add ‘unfortunately’,” he added.

Zaniolo and Roma need to come to terms before the winter transfer window closes on Tuesday. Otherwise, he would remain in the Italian capital until the end of the season.EFE
