Ronaldo, Atletico join PlayStation initiative for children fighting cancer
London, Mar 10 (efe-epa).- Former Brazilian soccer legend Ronaldo, Spanish forward Alvaro Morata and Atletico Madrid are the latest to join a PlayStation initiative to help children who are fighting cancer.
They are donating personal objects to be given away in a raffle, which also features a PlayStation 5, that people can access by buying tickets through the Explorers Club initiative’s website.
The Brazilian star has donated a signed Valladolid shirt, Morata has given away a Juventus kit and Atletico has provided shirts belonging to both the men’s and women’s teams.
The revenues will be allocated to set up themed rooms in hospitals incorporating PlayStation 5 technology to entertain young patients while they recover from cancer.
The project is backed by the Madrid-based Juegaterapia Foundation, which together with the La Paz hospital conducted a study that concluded that video games can act as a form of pain relief for children who have to undergo chemotherapy.
The project has also been supported by Barcelona’s midfielder Riqui Puig and Manchester City’s winger Ferran Torres.
The list of celebrities endorsing the initiative also includes household Spanish sporting stars like tennis legend Rafael Nadal and former Barcelona player Andres Iniesta. EFE-EPA
