Fabino, Oxlade-Chamberlan, Takumi lead Liverpool to PL’s 2nd spot

Sports Desk, Jan 16 (EFE).- Liverpool on Sunday jumped to the second spot in the Premier League table after a 3-0 win over Brentford, taking advantage of Chelsea’s defeat to leader Manchester City.

The Reds, who had to make do without stars Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane who are on international duty, dominated the game, but had to wait until the last minute of the first half to get on the scoreboard.

Brazilian midfielder Fabinho opened the scoring on a header off a corner that the defense failed to clear from inside the area with one minute to go before the first-half stoppage time.

Halfway through the second half, British midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain doubled his team’s lead also on a header.

Japanese super-sub Takumi Minamino capitalized on a wrong pass from goalkeeper Alvaro Fernandez in the 77th minute to round off the victory three minutes after taking the field.

After the win, Liverpool are second on the Premier League table with 45 points, 11 behind leader Manchester City, and two ahead of Chelsea with a match in hand. EFE
