Moscow, Oct 11 (EFE).- Russia on Tuesday added tech giant Meta, the parent company of Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp, to its list of “terrorist and extremist” organizations.
Meta was included on the list drawn up by the Russian financial supervisor, Rosfinmonitoring, meaning the multinational will not be able to finance its activities in the country.
A Moscow court banned the tech giant in March and the activities of Facebook and Instagram were blocked, although the measure did not affect WhatsApp.
The ban came after Meta refused to remove “extremist” calls for violence against Russians, including the military, from its social media platforms.
Meta had an appeal against the ban turned down in June. EFE
