Russia announces reconstruction plan, countermeasures to Nato expansion

Moscow, May 20 (EFE).- Russia announced on Friday its reconstruction plan for territories of Ukraine under Russian occupation that have been affected by the war.

“We already have the schedule of reconstruction works. We have created a special cabinet, in which all concerning parties are participating,” Russian deputy prime minister, Marat Jusnulin, said.

Jusnulin said that specialists were already on the ground to assess the reconstruction that the territories required.

“The work is already underway, we will rebuild all the destroyed roads and houses,” he said.

The deputy prime minister added that a second package of measures to recover the economy in these territories was being worked on.

“We have prepared a series of measures to get the economy back on track as soon as possible and get the financial system in order,” Jusnulin said.

Meanwhile, the Kremlin said on Friday Russia would create new military bases to counter the eastern expansion of Nato.

“Twelve military units and subunits will be formed in the Western Military District by the end of the year,” Russia’s defense minister, Sergey Shoigu, said.

Shoigu added the countermeasures will involve the deployment of modern weapons and military equipment to Russian troops.

“This year, we intend to get more than 2,000 pieces of such equipment,” he said.

Shoigu’s comments come after Finland and Sweden formally applied to join Nato this week, a move Russia describes as hostile and that increases military threats near its borders. EFE
