Russia claims significant damage to Ukraine on southern front

Moscow, Sep 23 (EFE).- Russia said on Saturday that it inflicted a substantial blow to the Ukrainians in the southern regions of Kherson and Zaporizhzhia, which have been the focus of Kyiv’s current counteroffensive to reclaim occupied territories.
Defense ministry spokesperson Igor Konashenkov said the Russian forces disrupted the supply system of the Ukrainian army in Kherson and Zaporizhzhia.
Konashenkov said in the past week, they had carried out a dozen group attacks, using long-range precision weaponry, both ground-based and air-based, as well as assault drones.
The targets that have been destroyed encompass repair facilities for armored vehicles and combat aircraft, stockpiles of Western weaponry and ammunition, training centers for sabotage units, and concentrations of foreign mercenaries.
He said the damages diminished the enemy’s capacity for recovery, as a portion of their reserves of cruise missiles, rocket launchers, missile systems, and projectiles with depleted uranium ammunition has also been eliminated.
Konashenkov reported that between Sep.17 and 23, the Russian army successfully repelled up to eight Ukrainian attacks near the towns of Robotine and Verbove (Zaporizhzhia).
During these clashes, more than 40 armored vehicles, military vehicles, and 35 artillery pieces belonging to the Ukrainian forces were destroyed.
The Ukrainian army also claimed to have breached the enemy lines around Verbove, a town located less than 40 km from the strategic bastion of Tokmak, which represents Kyiv’s primary objective before the onset of adverse weather conditions.
Konashenkov also noted that Moscow had intercepted and destroyed five Neptun cruise missiles and 37 Ukrainian assault drones in the annexed Crimean peninsula.
However, in recent days, the Ukrainian army claimed to have inflicted substantial damage on the General Staff building of the Russian Black Sea Fleet, destroyed a command post of the Russian Navy near Sevastopol, and reached an air base in Saki, located north of that port city. EFE
