Russia claims to have repelled missile attack against Crimea bridge. airfield

Moscow, Jul 10 (EFE).- Russia claimed on Monday that it had repelled a Ukrainian S-200 missile barrage on Sunday against the bridge that connects the Crimean peninsula with its territory and a military airfield in the southern Rostov region.

“Air defense systems destroyed three missiles that attacked the Kerch transport link and the Morozovsk airfield. There are no casualties or destruction,” the chief of the Russian Aerospace Forces Main Staff, Viktor Afzalov was quoted as saying by Russian state news agency TASS.

Afzalov said that Kyiv had also attacked other targets in the Rostov and Kaluga region, where two missiles had been shot down on Sunday by the air-defense systems according to the Telegram channel of Moscow’s defense ministry.

Two other S-200 missiles were deflected from their targets by means of electronic warfare, and fell without causing damages or casualties.

The S-200, designed in the Soviet-era, is long range, high altitude surface-to-air missile (SAM) system which can also be used to attack land-based targets.

The chief of Russian military’s general staff, Valery Gerasimov, has ordered his forces to identify and attacks the spots used by Ukrainian forces to house S-200 and similar missiles and take additional measures against aerial attacks.

The Russian defense ministry released a video of a teleconference in which Gerasimov issues the orders, marking the military chief’s first public appearance since the aborted mutiny by the Wagner Group mercenaries on Jun. 23-24. EFE
