Russia evacuates over 200 people from Sudan

Moscow, May 2 (EFE) .- Russia has evacuated more than 200 people from Sudan in military transport planes, the Russian Defense Ministry reported Tuesday on its Telegram channel.

Among the evacuees were officials from the Russian embassy and the Defense Ministry’s representation in Sudan, as well as their families, the press release added.

Others to be evacuated were citizens of Russia, countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) and several “friendly” countries that requested help, the ministry further said.

The operation was ordered by Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The statement said the evacuation was carried out using military transport planes but did not disclose the number of aircraft that took part in the operation. EFE
