Far-right call to ‘burn the Quran’ sparks riots in Sweden

Berlin, Apr 17 (EFE).- A rally by far-right party supporters, which were planning to burn the Holy Quran, triggered riots in the Swedish city of Malmo, local media reported on Sunday.

A bus was set on fire and other vehicles were damaged at the point where the demonstration, which had been previously authorized, was to be held.

The bus passengers had to be evacuated from the scene, while the police forces were attacked with stones and Molotov cocktails.

Saturday’s rally was the third in three consecutive nights to provoke riots in different parts of Sweden, following similar scenarios in Orebro and Stockholm.

Stram Kurs is a fringe xenophobic and Islamophobic party, which operates in both Denmark and Sweden. It seeks the prohibition of Islam and the expulsion of non-European immigrants. EFE
