Russia pounds Ukraine overnight killing one and wounding at least 34

Kyiv, May 1 (EFE).- Russia launched several missile and artillery strikes against Ukraine overnight killing one and injuring at least 34, including three children, authorities reported on Monday.

Authorities in Kherson said that residential areas came under fire across the region.

As a result of the attack, one civilian was killed and three were injured, including a child, Kherson’s Regional military chief, Oleksandr Prokudin, said on Telegram

The report added that Russian troops attacked the Kherson region 39 times, and fired 163 projectiles.

The military regional leader of Dnipro reported that 25 people were injured, including three children following a separate missile strike.

“The enemy attacked the region with missiles. Seven of them were shot down by the East Air Command. But, some of them hit the targets. The Pavlohrad district was affected,” Serhii Lysak said on Telegram.

The report said that an industrial complex in the city of Pavlohrad was damaged after a fire broke out that has since been extinguished.

Lysak also said that 19 residential blocks, 25 houses, six schools and five businesses were severely damaged in the attack.

In the Verbky neighborhood, also in Dnipro, some 40 residential buildings were damaged, as well as two in the Yurivka district, and a school in the Mezhyrich community.

According to Ukraine’s commander in chief of the armed forces, Valerii Zaluzhnyi, of the 18 cruise missiles Russian forces launched overnight, Ukraine intercepted 15.

Kyiv regional leader Serhiy Popko said that the Ukrainian military was able to down all the missiles Russia fired at the capital overnight.

Over the weekend Ukraine, warned that a drone attack on an oil depot in occupied Crimea was laying the ground for a counteroffensive.

According to the UK’s defense intelligence, Moscow has focused its efforts on fortifying the northern border of the Crimean peninsula near the village of Medvedevka.

“Russia has also dug hundreds of miles of trenches well inside internationally recognized Russian territory including in the Belgorod and Kursk regions,” the report said.

“The defenses highlight Russian leaders’ deep concern that Ukraine could achieve a major breakthrough,” the UK intelligence report added. EFE
