Russia reports another record-high daily Covid deaths

Moscow, Nov 9 (EFE).- Russia registered yet another record of daily coronavirus deaths Tuesday, two days after the end of a week-long paid holiday aimed at curbing spikes in infections and fatalities driven by the highly contagious delta variant in the Eurasian country.

The national Covid-19 information center reported 1,211 deaths within 24 hours, the highest since the pandemic began, with 39,160 new cases across Russia’s 85 regions.

The highest number of coronavirus-induced deaths was registered in Moscow with 95, followed by 88 in Saint Petersburg.

On Monday, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said it was too early to assess whether the nationwide non-working week would help bring down soaring infections, adding it would become clear in a week.

Russia continues to register the highest number of daily coronavirus deaths in Europe, ahead of Ukraine, according to figures from the Worldmeter.

So far, only 57.3 million of Russia’s 145 million population have been fully inoculated, according to official figures.

Since the outset of the pandemic, Russia has seen 8.9 million coronavirus cases and 249,215 related deaths.EFE
