Russia reports record number of daily Covid deaths as infections decrease

Moscow, Jul 14 (EFE).- Russia on Wednesday reported 786 Covid-19 deaths in the past 24 hours, a new high in daily fatalities since the pandemic began, while the number of infections in a single day decreased by 1,000 compared to the previous day, down to 23,827.

The country has reported a total of 145,278 deaths related to Covid-19 since the start of the pandemic.

The previous record in Russia was set on Tuesday, with 780 deaths.

Most of the deceased were located in Moscow (109) and Saint Petersburg (102).

Out of 23,827 infections recorded in the last 24 hours, some 3,996 were registered in Moscow, another 2,469 in the Moscow province and 1,942 in Saint Petersburg.

According to a mapping of infections by United States-based Johns Hopkins University, Russia has had a total of 5,857,002 Covid-19 infections, making it the fifth most affected country in the world, behind the US, India, Brazil, and France.

Over 28 million people in Russia have received at least a first jab of the Covid-19 vaccine, according to authorities.

Of Russia’s 85 regions, 25 provinces have made vaccination mandatory for certain sectors, such as sanitary workers.

According to the Moscow city administration, 70% of healthcare workers in the capital have been vaccinated, as well as 66% of teachers and education staff. EFE
