Russian forces struggling to cope with Ukraine’s terrain: UK intelligence

London, Mar 16 (EFE).- Invading Russian forces are struggling to overcome challenges presented by Ukraine’s terrain and seem reluctant to stray from road networks, a British intelligence report said Wednesday.

“Russian forces have remained largely tied to Ukraine’s road network and have demonstrated a reluctance to conduct off-road maneuvers,” the conflict assessment shared by the United Kingdom’s defense ministry said.

“The destruction of bridges by Ukrainian forces has also played a key role in stalling Russia’s advance,” it added.

Russian forces have been further limited by their inability to control the airspace in Ukraine while the Ukrainian army has been able to exploit the Russian army’s lack of maneuvers to inflict heavy losses.

Russia’s ground assault on Ukraine has so far been concentrated in southern, eastern and northern regions of Ukraine.

The major cities of Kharkiv, in the east, and Mariupol, in the southeast, are besieged by the Russian military while Kyiv, the capital, has come under fire from Russian units to the north. EFE
