Russian strikes damage port infrastructure in Ukraine’s Odesa

Kyiv, Sep 26 (EFE).- Russia attacked the southern Ukrainian region of Odesa, damaging infrastructure in the Izmail port on the Danube River, the head of the regional military administration said Tuesday.

“For two hours, Russian terrorists attacked the Odesa region with attack drones. Air defense forces were working extremely hard. Most of the drones were shot down,” Oleg Kiper said on Telegram.

“Unfortunately, the port infrastructure was hit in the Izmail district,” the official said, adding that two men were injured.

Some warehouses, about 30 trucks, 6 vans were damaged in the attack, according to the official.

The strikes also caused a fire that had been extinguished by firefighters, he added.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine said on Facebook that Russia stuck Ukrainian territory on Monday night with 38 Shahed drones, 26 of which were shot down by Ukrainian anti-aircraft defenses.

Some of these drones have fallen in Kryvyi Rih, where the facilities of a company have been damaged, it added.

Russian forces have been targeting Ukrainian grain export infrastructure since terminating in mid-July the Black Sea grain export deal, under which it allowed the export of grains from three Ukrainian Black Sea ports for a year.

Since the end of the deal, the Danube has become Ukraine’s main route to export grain. EFE
