Moscow, Jan 22 (EFE).- Russia on Saturday logged 52,212 Covd-19 cases in 24 hours, the highest daily figure since the beginning of the pandemic.
The previous highest toll came just the day before, when health authorities Friday logged 49,513 cases across the country.
Russia’s infection rates are driven by the contagious Omicron variant of the coronavirus.
The capital Moscow remains the epicenter of the pandemic in Russia with 16,084 cases in the previous 24 hours.
Russian health authorities reported 681 deaths in the last 24 hours with mortality rates remaining stable despite the rise in case numbers.
Officials estimate that Omicron accounts for 47.7% of cases in Russia. EFE
