Verstappen takes pole at Dutch Grand Prix

Sports Desk, Sep 3 (EFE).- Reigning Formula One champion Max Verstappen (Red Bull) will start the Grand Prix of the Netherlands from pole position after producing the fastest lap in Saturday’s qualifying at Zandvoort.

The Dutchman’s time 1:10.342 was 0.021 better than Monaco’s Charles Leclerc (Ferrari), who was in turn 0.71 quicker than Spanish teammate Spaniard Carlos Sainz.

The Spaniard will be joined on the second row Sunday by British seven-time champion Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes), while Mexico’s Sergio “Checo” Perez (Red Bull) qualified for P5, followed by Hamilton’s teammate and compatriot, George Russell.

Another Briton, Lando Norris (McLaren) took seventh place, ahead of Germany’s Mick Schumacher (Haas), posting his second-best qualifying of the season.

Japan’s Yuki Tsunoda (AlphaTauri) and Canadian Lance Stroll (Aston Martin) completed the top 10 for Sunday’s race.

It was the fourth pole of the season for Verstappen, who leads the 2022 driver standings with 284 points after 14 races. His closest competitor, Red Bull teammate Perez, has 191.

Next come the Ferrari duo of Leclerc (186 points) and Sainz (171), followed by Russell (170 points) and Hamilton (146).

Besides winning nine races, the Dutchman finished third in Monaco behind Perez and Sainz and was second to Leclerc in Austria.
