Bolsonaro admitted to hospital with abdominal pain

São Paulo, Jan 3 (EFE).- Brazil’s president Jair Bolsonaro was on Monday admitted to hospital with abdominal pain but is in good health, the presidency reported.

“The president is well,” his office said in a statement.

Bolsonaro was on holiday in Brazil’s southern state of Santa Catarina when he was transported by plane to the Vila Nova Star hospital in São Paulo at 1a.m. local time after complaining of abdominal discomfort.

The president is now stable and under treatment, according to the hospital.

Although the presidency did not disclose further details, doctors attending Bolsonaro told the press they suspected the president is suffering from an intestinal obstruction similar to others he has had since he was stabbed in the abdomen in 2018 during his presidential campaign.

The head of state has been hospitalized several times since being stabbed and has since

undergone four surgeries on the wounds.

In September 2020, Bolsonaro underwent a fifth surgery to remove a kidney stone. EFE
